FAQ about grooming

·         Why choose the mobile groomer?

Mobile grooming is a huge convenience to dog owners with busy lifestyles or owners who have trouble getting to the groomer (elderly or disabled). Many clients who have built trust with Bizzy B’s do not even need to be home, but return home to a freshly groomed dog. No more gas money and several trips to a store front groomer. There is also less stress on your dog. Your dog is the total focus of the groomer at any location. Your dog is not subject to other dogs, phones, customer traffic, crate drying, and others stressors at a store front groomer.

·         Do I need to schedule an appointment to have my dog groomed?

Yes, appointments allow us to give each pet the special attention and time they deserve.

·         What are your vaccination requirements?

Your dog must be current on DHLPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccinations.

·         What medical information do you need to know about my pet?

You will be asked to disclose all issues that your pet may have or has had in the past when going to the Vet or being groomed like aggressive tendencies, likes and dislikes and any health conditions. Disclosing that your dog may have aggressive tendencies does not automatically result in a refusal to groom. This allows the groomer to be mindful of these tendencies and to be able to better protect themselves from being bitten.

·         How much does it cost to have my dog groomed?

Prices are based on the breed and size of the animal. Age, behavior, special needs and the condition of the coat can influence the cost of individual grooming services.

·         What is your payment and appointment policy?

Payment is due at the time of service. We accept cash or check. Returned checks will be subject to a $25 fee plus the original cost of the service. Please give us 24-hour notice if you need to cancel your pet's appointment so we can fill that slot. A no show or noone home on arrival is like you being docked 2 hours off your paycheck for no reason.

·         At what age should my puppy have his/her first professional grooming?

Puppies should be introduced to professional grooming at 8 weeks of age and scheduled for a follow-up visit every four weeks. This will gradually let your puppy get acquainted with the sights, sounds, smell and procedures of the grooming process.

·         How do I get the best results from my groomer?

Every dog owner has different needs and expectations about dog grooming. The following are four suggestions to help you work with your groomer to get the best results for your pet.

1. Be specific about your expectations . . .
The groomer can't read your mind so it's important to be specific. "Short, but not too short" or "leave it longer" aren't adequate directions. Does short mean 2 inches of hair or half-inch? If you have something specific in mind, let your groomer know.

2. Look at the book . . .
A quality grooming studio will have books with photos that illustrate a variety of styles and lengths. Take the time to look through them and find one or two photos that are close to what you have in mind. Show them to the groomer and ask whether that style is possible for your dog.

3. Be realistic about the condition of your pet's coat . . .
Do you brush your pet regularly at home, or is his coat badly matted or tangled? Even a skilled groomer can't save a tangled coat. Sometimes there is no choice but to shave the matts and wait for the fur to grow back before trying that new style. Be sure to brush religiously as the coat grows back so the tangles don't return.

4. Finally, be honest about the results . . .
If you don't like the results, tell the groomer - in person - when you pick up your pet. Discuss what you would like done differently next time. A professional groomer keeps notes/database on each pet about what was done during the visit. If you are honest with the groomer about what you like or don't like, your comments can be added to the file. That way, the next time your pet comes in, your groomer will have a better idea of what you want.

·         How often should my dog be groomed?

Frequency of grooming depends on the breed, coat type and length, lifestyle and how much brushing and detangling you do at home between grooming appointments. If your dog has a longer hair style or a coat that tends to get tangled, they should be professionally groomed every 4-5 weeks. A dog with a short hair style or short coat can be groomed every 6 - 7 weeks.

·         How long will my dog need to stay for grooming?

A typical grooming procedure takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Additional time may be needed for larger dogs or dogs with thick or matted fur.

·         Will my dog come in contact with other animals during the grooming?

No. All grooming pets are handled individually and do not have contact with any other animals during the grooming process.

·         Should I have my dog groomed in the winter?

Yes, grooming is a year round process and Bizzy-B's is equiped with a heated unit and water to accomidate your pets' needs year round. Some people prefer to let their dog's fur grow longer during the winter months. Longer fur has a greater chance of developing matts and tangles. Matts do not allow for proper airflow through the coat and this can lead to health problems. Short haired breeds also need attention in the colder months. Pet skin can become dry and flaky due to a lack of humidity in the colder air. Regular shampooing, conditioning and brushing can help stimulate the natural oils to ease the dryness.

·         How can shedding be reduced?

Shedding can be reduced by 60 to 80% after 1 to 2 applications of a shed-less treatment. A shed-less treatment consists of a specially formulated de-shedding shampoo followed by the application of a de-shedding solution. A special tool is then used to remove the undercoat and loose fur.

·         Why do dogs shed?

Hormones in a dog's body control shedding. Most shedding seems to occur between winter and spring when the dog loses its thick winter coat. Shedding seems more prominent in breeds that originate from colder climates. Almost all dogs shed. A shed -less grooming procedure can tremendously reduce the amount of fur left around your house. (note: excessive shedding that does not respond to treatment can be a symptom of an underlying health problem. Please consult your veterinarian in this situation.) This may also require more than one application for the coat to respond.

·         Would my dog benefit from Shed-less?

Shed-less treatments are formulated for "shedding" breeds such as Labs, Goldens, Shepherds, Huskies, Border Collies, Pugs, Shelties, Beagles, Dachshunds, Boxers etc.

·         Will cutting my dog's fur short in the summer make him cooler?

Actually a dog's coat protects his skin from the elements, insulating him from both heat and cold. Making sure that the dog's coat is thoroughly brushed out and all undercoat is removed so that the air can circulate through the coat will keep him cooler.
